Text Your List for Solopreneurs

Your outreach should sound like you, not a CRM

Solopreneurs and freelancers use Text Your List to stay in touch with clients and leads personally, from a real phone number, not a shortcode or marketing platform.

Why solopreneur outreach falls flat

Automated tools undercut your personal brand

Your clients hired you, not a marketing funnel. When your outreach reads like a CRM template, it signals that you're treating them like a transaction rather than a relationship.

Tools built for teams aren't built for you

Most bulk messaging platforms are designed for marketing departments with shared inboxes and approval workflows. You need something that works like a single person reaching out to people they know.

Referrals come from relationships, not email sequences

The people who send you new clients do it because you made them feel like more than a contact in a database. Generic outreach erodes that feeling over time.

"Customers who receive personal outreach have 3x higher repeat purchase rates than those reached through automated email sequences alone."
Twilio Customer Engagement Research

Where this fits across your customer journey

Four moments where a personal text to a customer segment beats an email blast or a CRM auto-sequence.

Warm leads, not yet customers

First-touch conversion to people who joined your list but haven't bought

Your email list has 1,200 people. About 180 of them joined in the last 60 days, downloaded a lead magnet, and haven't bought yet. Filter your CSV by signup date and the lead magnet they grabbed, and write one personal text with their name and the resource referenced. Conversion on warm-but-cold leads runs 5-10x higher on personal text than on the standard nurture email sequence.

to Maria
Hi Maria, noticed you grabbed the pricing teardown PDF a few weeks ago. Curious what part of the framework you found most useful, or whether the section on bundling was where you stalled out. I'm sending a small tactical email Thursday that goes deeper on bundling specifically.

Active customers

Mid-program check-ins to current clients at the same milestone

You run a 12-week coaching program with rolling cohorts. 24 clients are currently in week 6, the typical "this is harder than I expected" stretch. A personal text to that segment, with each client's name and one specific thing they're working on merged in, lifts completion rates and gives you the early-warning signal on who's about to drop off.

to Karen (week 6)
Hi Karen, halfway through the program. The chunk you're in now (pricing your services) is where most people stall. Want to grab 15 min this week to walk through where you're stuck? I have Tuesday 11am or Thursday 4pm.
to James (week 6)

Repeat purchase windows

Personalized renewals and re-engagement to your past-buyer database

Your past-buyer database is 340 people. 90 of them bought 9-15 months ago and are due for a refresh, an annual package, or a new product you launched since they bought. Filter by last-purchase date, merge in what they bought and what you're offering them next, and each one gets a personal text from your number instead of an "It's been a while!" email blast.

to Sandra (bought brand strategy intensive Mar 2024)
Hi Sandra, hard to believe it's been a year since the brand strategy intensive. Wanted to give you first look at the new positioning workshop launching next month, since most of the people who did the intensive are exactly the right fit. Want me to send details?

Referral asks

Personalized referral requests timed to a recent win

Eighteen of your clients hit a measurable milestone in the last quarter (a launch, a hire, a revenue threshold). The single best moment to ask for a referral is the week after they posted their win. Filter your CSV to "wins in the last 30 days," write one personal text referencing their specific result, and the referral conversion rate is roughly 3-4x cold asks.

to Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, saw you hit the six-figure month from the launch we built the funnel for. So happy for you. Who else in your network do you think would benefit from the same kind of work? Happy to credit you a referral fee if it lands.
to David
Hi David, saw you signed the regional contract you were targeting all year. That's massive. Who else in your network is wrestling with a similar B2B sales motion? Happy to credit you a referral fee if it lands.

What solopreneurs try first, and where each one breaks

Three approaches most one-person businesses cycle through before they land on personal-text-at-scale.

Email marketing platforms (ConvertKit, Mailchimp, Beehiiv, Kit)

Useful for newsletter cadence, lead magnets, and recurring content. Open rates settle around 25-35% on a maintained list, click-through hovers at 2-5%. As a one-to-one conversion channel they cap out: the people who most need a personal nudge are the ones who stopped opening months ago.

DMs on Instagram, LinkedIn, or X

Works when the conversation started on that platform. Breaks the moment the relationship matures: most clients prefer not to do business in a social DM thread, and the platform's inbox notifications are buried by promotional messages from strangers. Useful for first touches, not for nurturing 180 warm leads through a buying decision.

Manually texting clients one at a time

Right voice, wrong economics. Texting 90 past buyers about a refresh package means an hour of repetitive typing, which most solopreneurs schedule and then skip when a paying client emergency comes up. Text Your List sends each one separately from your phone with the product they bought and the relevant offer merged in, in the time it would take to type one.

Common questions from solopreneurs

Will my contacts know I'm texting multiple people at once?
No. Each person receives an individual text message, not a group chat or mass text. There's no "you're on a list" signal. It looks and feels exactly like you typed it just for them.
Do I need a separate business number?
No. Text Your List sends from your real personal or business phone number. You're not buying a shortcode or a virtual number, your number is what shows up on their screen.
How many contacts can I message?
Plans start with enough capacity for most solopreneurs' lists. As your business grows, you can upgrade. Every message is still individual regardless of list size.
What if I want to follow up with just some people?
You can create and manage multiple lists or send to individuals any time. Many solopreneurs keep a "warm leads" list and a "past clients" list and message them separately with different messages.
Will this integrate with ConvertKit, Mailchimp, Stripe, or my CRM?
Yes. The Pro plan exposes a webhook that ConvertKit, Mailchimp, Stripe, HubSpot, Make, or Zapier can call to trigger a personal text send. When Stripe logs a purchase, or ConvertKit tags someone as "lead magnet downloaded," your automation hits the webhook and the contact gets a personal text from your phone with their name and the relevant details merged in. Any platform that can call a URL can drive Text Your List as the messaging step.
Will my carrier flag me as spam if I send 180 texts in a morning?
Carriers flag spam by pattern, not volume alone. Two markers matter most: pacing (the app sends one message at a time with a brief gap between each) and conversation rate (legitimate two-way replies signal real use). Solopreneurs sending to people who joined their own email list or bought from them have not reported carrier issues in normal use. Cold-list outreach is what triggers carrier scrutiny.
How do I handle people who opt out?
Add them to the in-app suppression list or remove them from your contact list. Either keeps them out of future sends across every list. STOP replies arrive in your normal Messages app and you can add them to the suppression list in one step.
Is texting people from my email list compliant with TCPA?
TCPA compliance depends on the consent language at signup. If your email-list signup form explicitly mentions follow-up via SMS or includes broader "occasional communications" language, you're typically on solid ground texting people on your list about relevant offers. If your signup is strictly email-only, treat that list as email-only and only text contacts you've moved into a separate consent flow. When in doubt, consult an attorney for your specific consent stack.
